Prof. I.O Igwe

Professor Isaac O. Igwe is a Lecturer in the Department of Polymer and Textile Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria and possess the following academic qualifications: B.Sc (Hons.) Chem. (UMM); M.Sc. (Polymer Chem.) (UNN) and Ph.D (Polymer and Textile Engr.) (FUTO). Professor Igwe started this teaching career with the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Nigeria (defunct Federal University of Technology, Makurdi, Nigeria) in 1985 where he rose from the Rank of Graduate Assistant to Senior Lecturer, and Head, Department of Chemistry (2002-2003). Professor Igwe joined the service of Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria in 2003 and is actively involved in the teaching of Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. His student supervision records are: Undergraduate (184), M.Sc (13), and Ph.D (major supervisor 6; Co-Supervisor 5).

Professor Igwe is a member of Chemical Society of Nigeria and Polymer Institute of Nigeria, and has published extensively in both local and international journals. He has attended many scientific conferences where he delivered well-researched papers ranging in content from applied Chemistry to the technology and engineering of polymer materials. His research interest include coatings (paint), polymeric materials, corrosion inhibitors, polymer degradability and penetrant diffusion in polymer systems.

Professor Igwe serves as an academic reviewer to a number of reputable journal publishers both locally and internationally, and is on the Editorial Board of some journal publishers. He is a chapter contributor to the RSC (London) famous “one stop” reference book:

Natural Rubber Based-Blends and Interpenetrating Networks, Vol. 1. (2014).

Professor Igwe presently serves as an External Examiner (Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes) to some Nigerian Universities. His academic laurels include Faculty of Science Prize for the best graduating student, University of Maiduguri, Nigeria (1983).

His hobbies include gardening, reading newspapers and magazines, watching football and writing articles for newspaper publication. Professor Igwe is also associated with community service activities.
